About Murrumbidgee Rural Studies Centre
Murrumbidgee Rural Studies Centre (MRSC), formerly known as Murrumbidgee College of Agriculture, is situated in the heart of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area at Yanco, just 10 minutes drive from Leeton and 20 minutes drive from Narrandera. It shares the site and resources with Yanco Agricultural Institute (YAI). Both MRSC and YAI are run by the NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI).
MRSC has been offering quality short courses to primary producers and small farm owners since 1986. Our ability to offer accredited training based on the most up-to-date information stems from our relationship with NSW DPI research, extension staff and the expansive resources and sites available to us for training purposes.
Our focus is to service the training needs of the primary producer, small farm owner and industry in a fast-paced, technological and legislative age. We also recognise that our clients already have a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience that may have gone unrecognised and have therefore been undervalued.
Skills recognition is a service we offer whereby a person may seek to gain a certificate or diploma through a process of Skills assessment. Basically, a client provides evidence of the skills, knowledge and experience they have and this is matched against a set of units of nationally recognised competencies that add up to a qualification, for example a Diploma of Agriculture.
Murrumbidgee Rural Studies Centre also offers a comprehensive program of short courses:
- Courses on training, learning and assessment
- Rural risk management
- SMARTtrain® Chemical Accreditation program
- Natural resource management
- Agricultural production
- Animal production
- Rural business management
Being run by a government department allows us to tailor our products to our clientele, offering training which fills in the knowledge and skill gaps created as new technology and legislation are introduced. MRSC can arrange training to take place in your workplace (subject to negotiation) or at a venue most convenient to you and other like-minded people.
Murrumbidgee Rural Studies Centre is made up of a team of dedicated, enthusiastic rural people who are sympathetic to the training needs of primary producers and small farm owners. We look forward to hearing your thoughts on our short course program or discussing your skills and experience on the way to gaining a qualification.
