Name: Water management for grape production - Research to Practice®
Description: A workshop to assist growers develop efficient and productive irrigation practices for their vineyard
Cost: After NSW Government subsidy, $240 GST-free.
Course aims: To encourage efficient irrigation scheduling practices which are responsive to plant demand and meet product specifications.

  • Monitor crop for irrigation needs
  • Monitor water supply and availability
  • Develop efficient irrigation scheduling
  • Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of irrigation system
Length: Two days
Course program/structure: Day 1
  • Introduction
  • The grapevine
  • Soil requirements to grown grapes
  • Product targets
  • Soil management in establishing vineyards
  • Soil pit demonstrations

Day 2

  • Case studies on soil
  • Irrigation
  • Soil moisture monitoring equipment
  • Irrigation to meet product specifications
  • Partial rootzone drying
  • Irrigation case study
  • Action plans
Resources and method of delivery: Participants receive a course manual.

This course is delivered using indoor and outdoor instruction.

Accreditation: This course is mapped to the national unit of competency, RTF4609A - Implement, monitor and adjust irrigation schedules.

This course was developed by the Grape and Wine Research Development Corporation.
