Name: Stock AssessTM - live cattle assessment and marketing
Description: A course for new entrants to the beef industry to improve their skills in assessing and marketing their cattle.
Cost: After NSW Government subsidy, $235 GST-free weekdays or $265 Fri/Sat.
Includes a workbook, manual, carcase weight calculator and a live cattle record book.
Course aim: To assist beef producers to develop skills in assessing cattle to meet market criteria and identify marketing options for their cattle.
Learning outcomes:
  • Identify locations on a live animal used to determine fat and muscle
  • Define the terms live weight, dressed weight, dressing percentage, and retail beef yield 
  • Accurately assess a group of live cattle for fat cover, muscle score, live weight and dentition
  • Accurately read a slaughter grid and match assessed cattle to it
  • Complete relevant paperwork required to sell a group of cattle
  • Interpret a slaughter feedback sheet

Accreditation: This course is mapped to the national unit of competency RTE3113A - Identify and draft livestock.
