Name: Soils and fertilisers
Description: A practical course for those seeking a better understanding soils and fertilisers.
Cost: After NSW Government subsidy, $170 GST-free.
May attract a FarmBis subsidy.*
Course aims: To assist participants to develop skills in assessing soil health and selecting the most appropriate fertiliser.
Learning outcomes:
  • Identify the link between soils, landscape and plants
  • Recognise physical, chemical and biological features of soils so they can be mapped
  • Take soil samples and interpret soil test results
  • Compare fertilisers including their costs and environmental effects
  • Identify the management options for various soil types
Length: 1 day
Course program/structure:
  • Soil health and fertility
  • How to determine soil physical and chemical features
  • Inspecting and interpreting different soils in a landscape
  • Using fertilisers and comparing costs
Resources and method of delivery: Participants are provided with a fertiliser publication and course handouts.

This course is delivered using both indoor and outdoor instruction.

Accreditation: This course is mapped to the national unit of competency, RTE4511A - Develop a soil use map for a property.
