Skills assessment
Skills assessment is a process which counts experience, skills and knowledge you have already gained towards obtaining a nationally recognised qualification, useful inside and outside farming or rural businesses.
Measure your existing skills against nationally derived competencies and qualifications. A successful farming career can be translated into formal qualifications recognised nationally as assets in the labour market.
To gain skills recognition you provide evidence, negotiated with an assessor, of your specific skills and knowledge in the relevant area. This evidence exempts you from studying course modules to gain a qualification.
Murrumbidgee Rural Studies Centre (MRSC) staff can advise and help with your application. Most applicants take two to three months to complete a Certificate IV or Diploma level course.
MRSC offers skills recognition for qualifications at Certificate IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma level in:
- Conservation and Land Management
- Agriculture
- Horticulture and Production Horticulture
- Training and Assessment (TAA40104)
Each course starts with a one-day workshop at Yanco or another NSW DPI District Office. This is followed by individual assessment on your farm or at your business and regular communication by mail, email or other agreed means.
Skills recognition services are offered in association with CB Alexander campus of Tocal College. Jan Munro coordinates the program at MRSC. To register your interest, post an enrolment form or email Jan at jan.munro@dpi.nsw.gov.au. Send no money until we ask.
